Culture is a Strategic Advantage

WAW ep 143 Culture is a strategic advantage | Best Culture Solutions

“When culture is strong people want to stay and others want to join.”

People talk about culture all the time. Yet many organizations struggle to define what it actually means. When I think about culture I look at three things. Shared beliefs, shared behaviors, and shared assumptions. These are the factors that determine how people act when they come to work each day. When those elements align teams move in the same direction and organizations operate more effectively.

Culture also has a measurable impact on business performance. When someone leaves an organization the replacement cost can reach thirty to thirty five percent of their annual salary. Retention alone makes culture a strategic advantage.

But the benefits go beyond turnover. A strong culture helps attract motivated people who want to be part of something meaningful. It gives employees clarity about expectations and how decisions should be made.

Companies like Disney and Chick-fil-A provide great examples. They build cultures around shared purpose and consistent behaviors. Employees know what is expected and customers experience that consistency every day.

If you want to understand your culture start by listening to your people. Culture surveys and stay interviews can reveal what employees are thinking before they decide to leave.

Culture is not just a slogan on a wall. It is the operating system of your organization. When it works well everything else becomes easier.
