“Great leaders don’t wait for perfect. They make the best call they can and adjust if needed.”
What do the Muppets, Goofy Movie fans, and leadership have in common? Turns out, quite a bit.
There is a lot of chatter around the closing of Muppet Vision 3D after decades at Walt Disney World. As a former cast member and lifelong fan, I’ll admit it got me a bit emotional. But it also brings up a deeper conversation about change and leadership. Specifically, how leaders decide what to change, when to do it, and how to handle the inevitable backlash.
You simply cannot make everyone happy. That’s not cynicism, it’s just reality. So the better question becomes: How do you lead through change in a way that brings the greatest value to the greatest number of people?
The answer isn’t flashy. It’s grounded. It’s about asking questions, gathering feedback, listening to what’s not being said, and getting off the metaphorical carpet and onto the concrete. It’s about understanding that sometimes, the loudest voices aren’t the most representative. That’s where data and experience matter.
When a change does come, be clear, be kind, and be ready. Sometimes feedback will affirm your path, and other times, it might just give you the clarity and humility to course-correct.
Whether you’re leading a team through a policy change or closing down a beloved attraction, the weight of leadership is real. It is important to remember though that you are not alone in it. That’s why conversations like this matter.
