How to Get Clear On Your Ideal Interview Outcome

Effective communication can set you apart in any interview process. Along the way, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with a number of industry experts including Mike Simmons of Catalyst Sales. Mike’s insights on using communication tools during interviews have been game-changing for so many clients.

Mike has a fantastic tool for interview prep that he shared on our recent podcast episode. It revolves around a simple square diagram with four key sections:

  1. Who: Know who you’re meeting.
  2. T.O: Understand their objectives.
  3. M.O: Define your objectives.
  4. Desired Next Steps: Identify your top 3 desired outcomes.

Implementing this framework while preparing during interview prep is a game changer. You might have to go in with a little bit of risk but this gives you a tool that helps you determine where your risk is. You can then ask yourself, am I comfortable with that risk? If you’re not comfortable with the risk, then pause, take some time and ask some questions. Gather that information, see if you can fill in some of those sides of that box, and then go out there and, execute.

When job seekers actively use this tool, they’re setting themselves up for success and positioning themselves as standout candidates. We’ve seen people go from unsure to confident, converting interviews into offers.
